Received from a Daddy Today...
This email:
I just dropped a friend's child off at a large daycare. It was a brief but memorable experience. Not for any unusual event that took place. Rather, it was the overwhelming size and sounds of the place that left me reeling. Although I miss Zach something fierce during the day, as I made my way home this morning it was nice to know that he is in a small, warm environment where - as they used to say of the barflies on that old sitcom "Cheers" - everybody knows his name. All of which is to say... Thanks.I'm smiling.

What a sweet comment! That would totally make my day. :)
How nice!!! Susan keeps telling me to have you watch our kids when we move this month, but you're, like, eight hours away from us! Come live with us. Please.
What a great Daddy!
That's so awesome. He truly knows the value of what you do for his child - even if he didn't before. Sometimes it takes a visit to a different kind of setting to realize all of the perks of the smaller setting that you offer!
Oh, that is so nice I bet caregivers don't hear that all that often, and it is so valuable to just get that little bit of recognition once in a while. Good man.
It helps to be appreciated, doesn't it.
Very nice indeed that he stopped not only to notice and appreciate, but to let you know that he noticed and appreciated. Many may have simply thought, "phew, glad my kid's not here", and gone no further with it.
What a great email !
Makes it all worth while doesn't it?
Good for him acknowledging you and your wonderful care.
Where do I find a Dad willing to drop of my kid at daycare for me? This guy isn't for real is he?
ps... I am commenting under an AKA tonight because I just don't feel like myself.
KEP: It was, indeed. He's stepped on my toes once or twice, this fellow, but he means well, and I like him.
JuneC: I'm a little panicked about September, truth to tell, so...where are you moving to?
M&Co: Isn't he, though?
Angela: I think he's always known. Sometimes he's misstepped, but we always work it out. Nice guy.
Kittenpie: It's not too uncommon for a parent to say they "don't know how I do it", which is most often perfectly sincere and respectful, but some days, you know, that has shades of a shudder of condescension in it. Who would want to - all the shit and snot and tantrums? This one was great.
Granny: It absolutely does, and generally, I'm very fortunate that way. Not too many people fire of a spontaneous email, though I did have one dad who would bring me flowers from time to time!
Haley: You're absolutely right. The two minutes he took to fire off that email made my day - and look how much good press he's getting here!!
kimmyk: Having clients like this makes the job so much easier!
1.98: 1.98 persons...who do I know who's within seconds of dropping that baby? Hmmm...
Anyway. Yes, he's for real! A solid 90% of my clientele have shared daycare duties: usually dad drops off and mom picks up, but often the arrangements are more casual. In this case, mom is a doctor and dad works from home, so I tend to see more of dad.
(But I know the other kind of dad exists. I was married to one like that for 13 years or so..)
that is so sweet! i love that he took the time to let you know how much he appreciates and SEES the environment you set up for these kids. what a gift, his to you and yours to the kids. i love that.
Priceless...
Oh, how lovely!
Keep this, and keep that kid, too.
